Engagement Overview

The engagement between MILL5 and Lionbridge focused on modernizing Lionbridge’s cloud infrastructure to enhance scalability, high availability, and disaster recovery. By migrating from Azure Service Fabric to Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), implementing Azure SQL Database, Storage, Virtual Machines, and Bastion, and conducting extensive performance engineering, MILL5 addressed Lionbridge’s challenges and achieved significant improvements. The project resulted in significant cost reductions and a robust, scalable infrastructure capable of supporting Lionbridge’s global operations.

Challenges

Lionbridge Technologies provides translation and localization solutions that enable companies to deliver technology applications such as software, websites, products and documentation, multimedia, eLearning, and training, with $1.5 billion in annual revenue. Lionbridge faced critical cloud infrastructure challenges that limited system availability, scalability, and operational efficiency across its global platform.

  • Conducted a comprehensive architecture, code, and performance review using Azure Application Insights to assess current-state limitations and define a modernization roadmap
  • Migrated Lionbridge’s platform from Azure Service Fabric to Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), enabling improved scalability, resiliency, and operational flexibility
  • Deployed and integrated Azure SQL Database, Azure Storage, Azure Virtual Machines, and Azure Bastion to support a robust, secure, and scalable cloud infrastructure
  • Performed extensive performance engineering, including stress, load, and availability testing, to validate system stability under real-world conditions
  • Improved high availability and disaster recovery capabilities while reducing overall cloud infrastructure costs
