MILL5 performed a comprehensive architecture review of Emerson’s current existing SCADA platform. Emerson needed professional guidance and hands-on consulting from an experienced software team, to move beyond its current SCADA platform to Industrial IoT (IIoT), and bring the platform successfully to the Edge. MILL5’s extensive experience in building real-time cloud and on-premises IoT, web, desktop, and mobile solutions provided Emerson with the next-generation platform for all their SCADA products.

Emerson is a designer and manufacturer of industrial products, software, and systems with $20 billion in annual revenue. Emerson faced several modernization and scalability challenges that limited its ability to connect devices globally, manage fleets efficiently, and unlock new cloud-based revenue opportunities.

• Required assistance with moving current HMI and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) system to the cloud.
• Lack of cloud connectivity for new, existing, and legacy devices.
• Antiquated SCADA proved difficulty for fleet management capabilities.
• Increasing operating costs surrounding maintenance and replacement of customer devices

• Moved outdated SCADA system to cloud-based IIoT platform, allowing over 10,000 customers to connect native products more easily
• Provided a comprehensive architecture review with recommendations to improve network protocols, frameworks, microservices, and security, saving Emerson millions of dollars while securing the on-device and cloud workloads
• Built IoT gateway and IoT devices that natively support the Azure IoT Platform
• Provided Emersons’ customers with the ability to connect their devices to Emerson’s IIoT cloud allowing for improved monitoring and maintenance
• Built an extensibility model to plug in custom data and AI analytics for custom workloads such as predictive maintenance, scheduling of field technicians, and other types of productivity and efficiency gains for various personas
• Developed a global SaaS-based fleet management solution whose predictive maintenance feature fueled a new revenue stream
